Usually, root canals are recommended or needed when there is an infection deep within the tooth. The pulp inside the tooth can become infected with bacteria because of an injury or a severe, untreated cavity.
Without treatment, the infection may progress to cause significant pain or cause the formation of an abscess underneath the tooth, which affects the strength and function of the tooth.
Root canal treatment can help maintain the teeth’ function so that patients may continue to chew effectively using normal biting force. It also helps to keep the tooth’s natural aesthetic appearance, in contrast to alternative options, such as dental implants.
Retain your natural tooth and avoid extraction.
Alleviate the severe pain associated with tooth infections.
Prevent the spread of infection to neighbouring teeth.
Our team conducts a thorough examination, including X-rays, to assess the extent of the infection and determine the most appropriate treatment plan.
Before starting your root canal treatment, your tooth will be fully numbed with a local anaesthetic to ensure a pain-free procedure.
A small opening will be made on the top of your tooth to expose the infected pulp. The dentist will then clear the diseased pulp from within the tooth using dental files, with special attention given to cleaning the canals within your tooth.
After completely removing the infected materials from the tooth, your dentist will confirm that your tooth is free of symptoms and ready for sealing. A temporary filling will be placed until your dental crown/inlay/onlay is prepared.
Following the completion of root canal treatment, the treated tooth is trimmed and prepared for digital scanning or impression taking. The crown is then crafted in the laboratory.
On your second visit, the dentist will affix a permanent crown onto your tooth. In some cases, a small supporting post may be inserted into your tooth to reinforce the stability of the crown (depending on the severity of your condition).
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Experience same-day, natural-looking porcelain crowns with us. Unlike traditional methods that require a two-week wait for crown fabrication, our onsite dental laboratory, equipped with advanced 3D milling technology, can craft a personalised porcelain crown in just 3-4 hours. Say goodbye to the inconvenience of waiting or dealing with temporary crowns that may pose the risk of falling off and causing tooth sensitivity.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br />We have put together a team of exceptionally skilled clinicians who believe in solving problems at their root cause. We believe prevention is better than cure and practise this by implementing early interventions. We continually set aside time for education to train the team to provide safe and predictable treatment to all our clients</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br />We constantly look for adopting new technologies to maintain high standards of patient care. For instance, we design dental crowns using CAM/CAD systems. During aligner treatment and restorative workups, we use 3D X-rays and dental microscopes to look for hidden details in your teeth.</span></p>
Root canal treatment duration varies based on the case’s complexity. It can be completed either in a single session or across multiple visits (typically 2-3 visits).
The entire procedure is performed under local anaesthesia, making it no more painful than a routine tooth filling or a wisdom tooth surgery. While the affected area may cause some discomfort and slight soreness post-surgery, these sensations typically subside within a few days.
Root canal treatment has a high success rate of 85% – 95% depending on the condition of the tooth. Many root canal-treated teeth last a lifetime.
A root canal-treated tooth is susceptible to fracture without a crown. A crown is usually compulsory. You will be referred back to your dentist for the crown once the root canal treatment is completed. At DP Dental, we go a step further by offering the convenience of same-day crowns, milled in-house, ensuring you receive comprehensive and prompt dental care.
Nothing looks, feels or functions like your natural tooth. Our aim is to save your natural teeth through root canal treatment when possible.
However, if a tooth is beyond repair and needs to be extracted, an implant is one option for replacement. Keep in mind that replacement procedures are often more expensive and take more time compared to getting a root canal and a crown.
