Same-day crown with CAD-CAM technology

What is Same-day Crown?

Patients only have to visit our doctors once and walk out with a new, natural, permanently fixed ceramic (porcelain) crown. There is no more waiting for laboratories to hand-craft each crown, no more second visits to fix the crown, and no more temporary crowns.

Our doctors at DP Dental will shape your tooth, scan it with the CEREC machine, and mill it in our in-house laboratory and cement it onto your tooth on the same day. The result is a highly accurate, precise, and natural-looking crown fitted on the same day.

PROCESS

The advantages of using CAD/CAM in Dentistry

Computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) describe software that makes it possible for dentists to perform complex procedures faster, more easily and more accurately.

CAD/CAM technology constructs restorations, like crowns, veneers, inlays, on-lays and bridges, from a single block of ceramics, making the final product more precise than traditional fabrication methods.

Custom 3-D images of your prepared tooth or teeth are created by digitally scanning your impressions. We use these scans to produce a virtual design for the restorative device and connect milling equipment digitally. The materials are aesthetically pleasing and durable. There is increased efficiency in laboratory processing, quick fabrication of the restoration, and quality control of restorations such as fit, mechanical durability and predictability. These advantages will ultimately benefit our patients.

Crowns

What is a dental crown?

A dental crown is a tooth-shaped cover that fits your natural tooth’s existing structure to protect and restore the tooth’s function.

Where are crowns used?

    • After root canal treatment to help strengthen the tooth
    • For strengthening of teeth weakened by decay or a large filling
    • To protect fractured, cracked and worn teeth
    • Covering an abutment after a bone or gum implant for an undetectable, natural finish
    • To improve the shape, alignment and shade of a tooth

Crowns are made using the following materials:

– All-metal. Often gold or tooth-coloured crowns such as porcelain fused

– Metal. Usually gold or a gold alloy underneath a ceramic outer layer

-Full ceramic porcelain or composite. Plastic with glass particles embedded.

Our doctors will discuss the various crowns’ benefits with the patient and recommend the most suitable option.

What types of crowns are commonly fabricated at DP Dental?

At DP Dental, we are committed to providing the highest quality dental care with our highly specialised dental team and the aid of state-of-the-art technologies. Our doctors are certified practitioners of the revolutionary CEREC – One-Visit Ceramic Restoration technology.

With this technology, patients only have to visit our doctors once and walk out with a new, natural, permanently fixed ceramic (porcelain) crown.

How does the CEREC technology work?

First, our doctors numb the tooth and the surrounding gum with local anaesthesia. Then the tooth is shaped, creating a cylindrical shape onto which the crown will be cemented.

At this point, instead of using “dental putty” to take an impression of your tooth, we use a digital camera to scan your tooth. We then convert the video into a 3D model of your tooth and use the design for your new restoration.

Once your dentist is happy with the newly designed tooth, we send the data to an on-site milling machine, which fabricates your new tooth from a high-quality ceramic block.

Matching shade and fit

The ceramic blocks come in a wide variety of shades and colours, and your tooth will be selected to match your surrounding teeth. Once the crown or veneer has been milled, our doctor may choose to characterise it by glazing to match your surrounding teeth.

Next, we cement your new restoration into place on your prepared tooth. Our doctor will help you try your new crown, making sure that it fits correctly and that you are happy with the appearance. The crown will then be cemented in place permanently. We check your bite carefully, and minor adjustments are made if necessary.
