At DP Dental, we are extremely proud to be an Invisalign Diamond Provider.
To be a certified Invisalign Diamond provider, a clinic must have dealt with more than 150 successful cases a year. Our Invisalign approach is unique as we AVOID tooth extraction.
In this article, we discuss some of the most commonly asked questions about Invisalign to help you decide if Invisalign is right for you and your family.
𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐨𝐥𝐝 𝐝𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐈𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐧?
Dr Pearlyn Pan (Associate Dentist, DP Dental), shares that thanks to Invisalign First, children as young as 6 can wear Invisalign! Treatment in young children (aged 6-10) is known as Phase 1 treatment, and aims to develop young jaws to create space for developing teeth. Through early intervention, and by addressing crowding, spacing and bite issues early, we can avoid the need for complex treatment when they are older.
There is no upper age limit for Invisalign treatment, as long as your teeth and bones are healthy. The Invisalign process may take longer in adults than in children or teens, but we have successfully treated patients in their 40s, 50s, and even 60s, and helped them achieve healthy, functional smiles.

In general, Invisalign may cause mild discomfort and soreness initially but is a lot more comfortable than traditional braces.

How often can you remove your Invisalign aligners?
Here is what Dr Susie Zhang (Associate Dentist, DP Dental) has to say, “We recommend that you remove your aligners only when you are eating, drinking or brushing your teeth.”
The aligners are not designed to withstand the pressure of chewing, so there’s a risk of distorting and snapping them, thereby interrupting treatment. That’s why we recommend that you take your aligners off while eating your food. As for drinking, we recommend that you only drink water when you have your aligners on. Any coloured or sugary drink (coffee, tea, juice, bubble tea) will stain your aligners and discolour them, and can also cause decay.
𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐝𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐤𝐞𝐞𝐩 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐈𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐧 𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐜𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐧?
You can rinse your aligners or scrub them clean with a toothbrush using mild soap and water.
At DP Dental, we recommend using Steraligner for a more thorough clean. Watch Dr Wendy (AVP, DP Academy) explain more about this process.
Steraligner can chemically penetrate the aligner’s plastic or resin, and get the bacteria out. It can thus get rid of discolouration, stains and bad taste, and keep your aligners fresh, clean and crystal clear again.
𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐲 𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬 𝐚 𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐰𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐈𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐧 𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬?
The Invisalign aligners are designed to place constant pressure on your teeth, slowly moving them into place. The aligners are only effective during the time they are in physical contact with the teeth. Hence, to achieve optimal results, we recommend wearing your Invisalign for between 20 and 22 hours every day.
According to Dr Loh Ee Tyug (Senior Associate Dentist & Clinical Director, DP Dental Kovan), “If the aligners are worn for less than 20 hours a day, it will cause discomfort during wear as the aligners won’t fit snugly against the teeth. In the long run, the treatment time will get dragged on.”
What’s special about Invisalign treatment at DP Dental?
At DP Dental, we AVOID tooth extraction as we believe that it is possible to expand your arch and maintain it through adopting proper oral habits. So, when it comes to Invisalign treatment, we don’t just look at your teeth, but also your oral posture, especially your tongue posture.
We aim to get to the root cause of problems, which is why we include myofunctional habit correction exercises with our Invisalign treatment.
Watch our Clinical Director, Dr Yue Weng Cheu, explain the 𝐈𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐧 𝐖𝐢𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐄𝐱𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 approach we follow at DP Dental.
